Why Low Silver Prices Are Good For Magic

The price of silver is hovering around $20 an ounce after a high in late February 2012 of over $35 an ounce. While this bit of financial news may seem out of place on iTricks, it could be important to any coin magicians looking to add something special to their act. The drop in the price of silver means that junk silver coins, that is coins with no collector (or numismatic) value, are also now markedly cheaper than they were earlier this year when silver was a pricier commodity. If you have been considering adding something like Walking Liberty half dollars or Morgan dollars to your magic arsenal, now may be a good time to do some shopping. While the gimmicks may be harder to find, many coin workers find that the old fashioned silver coins have a better presence, being both visually impressive and making more pleasant ‘ringing’ sounds, than modern coins.
